A handheld inkjet printer prints color graphics on a variety of surfaces.

It’s fun to print colorful graphics on paper. But what if you want to print them on walls, wood, clothing, or anything else that’s impossible to print on a desktop printer? Well, that’s where PrintBrush XDR comes in.
The XDR is a portable inkjet printer developed by Stockholm-based PrintDreams that connects wirelessly to a smartphone app via Wi-Fi. Full-color graphics are created in the app and then transferred to PrintBrush. A USB cable can also be used to transfer data, and the XDR can store up to four image files in its own internal flash memory, so you don’t need a smartphone (or tablet, or laptop) to use it later.
To print an image, users simply drag the device across “virtually any surface” from left to right or right to left. XDR uses optical sensors and inertial measurement units to determine the direction and speed of movement, printing the graphic so that it appears correctly no matter what.
It is important to note that PrintBrush cannot currently print full-page graphics, although this feature is in development. It can print up to three horizontal “strips” of graphics at a time, with small gaps between each strip.
The device is powered by an 11.1V lithium polymer battery and is said to be capable of printing around 4,000 pages on a single charge. A single cartridge should be able to print around 5,000 half-inch x 4-inch (13 x 102 mm) sheets.
In case you’re wondering, the PrintBrush XDR is currently running a Kickstarter campaign. Once it goes into production, it will be available for purchase for a pledge of 2,166 SEK (approximately $240 USD). We’re told that it’s planned to retail for around $299. You can see it in action in the video below.
And if you want to spray digital graphics over a larger area, the SprayPrinter 2 is a better choice.
