Epson’s new SureColor P5370 inkjet printer is the sixth generation of Epson’s 17-inch professional inkjet printer series, which began with the Stylus Pro 4000 in 2004 and continued with the Epson SureColor P5000 in 2017. (You can read my review of the P5000 here.) Epson took the best of the SureColor P5000SE and some of the features of the SureColor P900 and added even more to create a new model that will appeal to a wide range of photographers—from wedding photographers to portrait and fine art photographers—and has the performance to handle production-level printing when needed.
The SureColor P5370 has the same basic features as its predecessor, plus a number of useful features such as a built-in roll holder and automatic cutter. Versatile paper handling features include a large-capacity paper tray that holds 8″ x 10″ and 17″ x 22″ sheets, and a manual straight feeder that holds up to 1.5mm thick rigid stock. The roll feed shaft and automatic cutter are replaceable.
A new 4.5-inch color LCD touchscreen provides quick access to control and maintenance systems. The P5370 also features improved Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), as well as standard Gigabit Ethernet and SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity.
The new model now features a MicroPiezo AMC print head for increased reliability, smoother transitions and better detail reproduction. Epson has upgraded the inks to 10-colour UltraChrome® PRO10 inks, adding violet ink to enhance and expand blue tones. The P5370 comes with 200ml ink cartridges, allowing you to print for long periods without running out of ink. It also features separate photo black and matte black channels with more efficient switching between them, helping to prevent black ink from running out too quickly.
A special new Carbon Black mode increases the density of black on glossy paper, providing higher contrast and smoother tonal transitions – without the need for a separate overprint ink.
Colour prints are rated to last 200 years, while black and white prints are rated to last 400 years. Of course, this depends on how the prints are displayed or stored, but Epson printers have long been known for their exceptional durability.
Included in the package are Epson Print Layout and Epson Media Installer software. The latter simplifies the use of third-party media and is the perfect complement to any printer. Also included is the Epson® Cloud Solution PORT for printer monitoring, which can be controlled via a web browser or iOS app.
Overall, these updates take an already excellent, outstanding printer to the next level, adding convenience and (on paper, at least) producing even better-quality prints than its predecessor.
