PrinCube is a miniature handheld color printer suitable for printing on a variety of surfaces.

What if a printer could fit in your pocket and print on almost any surface? The launch attracted the support of more than 12,000 backers, who have pledged more than $1 million to bring the PrinCube project from prototype to production. PrinCube is a single-line color mobile printer that measures less than 3 inches on its longest side. Startup TheGod Things claims that this portable printer is the smallest mobile color printer to date.
The PrinCube is a portable printer: instead of feeding a sheet of paper into the printer, the user moves the PrinCube onto the paper one line at a time. Because the printer sits on a surface rather than a paper plate, the PrinCube can print not only on paper, but also on cardboard, leather, metal, plastic, fabric, wood, textured surfaces, and even skin to create custom temporary tattoos.
The PrinCube can print one line at a time (up to 0.56 inches). The multi-line printing feature allows users to create content up to 9.8 feet long that is separated into individual lines by the movement of the printer. The ink cartridges are enough to print more than 415 A4 pages.
Color inkjet printers use Wi-Fi to connect to the PrinCube app to create designs anywhere and send them to the printer. Swipe the printer across the surface to print the design.
The PinCube wasn’t the first compact printer that lay flat on paper and printed a line, but it was the first color printer of its kind and the lightest color printer to date. The startup says the printer measures 2.8 x 2 x 2.7 inches and weighs about 5.6 ounces.
The PrinCube uses a single cartridge and comes with standard ink that can be cleaned with soap and water, as well as a semi-permanent solvent-based ink that can be cleaned with alcohol and similar solvent-based cleaners. The printer charges via a USB Type-C port and has a battery life of 6 hours of continuous printing.
TheGod Things, based in New York City and Shenzhen, China, has raised more than $1.8 million on Indiegogo to fund production. If production is successful — be aware of the pitfalls — early backers can get a PrinCube for a starting price of about $100. Standard cartridges cost $29, while semi-permanent cartridges cost $39. The startup plans to start shipping the PrinCube before Christmas.

That being said, drone ownership is often seen as a very expensive hobby, with high-end brands like DJI costing thousands of dollars. Luckily, there are plenty of great budget options, including quality DJI alternatives, many of which sell for as little as $46. Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite drones — each one would make a great holiday gift for the people in your life who appreciate the revolutionary bird’s-eye view they provide.
