The 14th Canon x McDull Inter-School Ink Cartridge Recycling Awards celebrates environmental education and green living.

In line with Canon’s corporate philosophy of “Symbiosis”, Canon Hong Kong actively promotes environmental protection and integrates eco-friendly elements into its various activities. Since the launch of the Cartridge Recycling Programme in 2009, Canon Hong Kong has appointed the locally beloved cartoon character McDullah as its ambassador. To raise the environmental awareness of the younger generation, the programme was extended to the education sector in 2011, encouraging primary and secondary schools to participate in annual recycling competitions. Now in its 14th year, the programme has attracted the active participation of over 300 organisations, housing estates, shopping malls, supermarkets and schools, who have set up recycling bins to encourage the public to recycle used inkjet cartridges (all brands are accepted). To deepen students’ understanding and engagement in environmental issues, Canon Hong Kong has conducted over 200 environmental workshops for participating schools, where over 70,000 students have gained knowledge on recycling and sustainability. As of June 2025, over 285,000 cartridges have been collected. Recycled cartridges are disassembled, and the metal and plastic are recycled into raw materials for other products.
In his welcoming speech at the ceremony, Mr Li Guo-Qiang, President and CEO of Canon Hong Kong, expressed his gratitude to the winning schools for their outstanding contributions to environmental protection. Ten schools were awarded for the “Highest Number of Cartridges Recycled” and “Highest Number of Cartridges Recycled Per Capita”. Mr Li thanked the academic community for their enthusiasm and support. He stressed the importance of instilling environmental awareness in the younger generation from an early age and encouraged schools to continue to support environmental initiatives and work together to create a better, more sustainable society.
Following the awards ceremony, Canon Hong Kong organised a Fun Imaging workshop for the students. This interactive experience, combining photography and printing, allowed the students to learn the basics of photography, create creative images and then print their work on the spot. The workshop not only helped them discover the joy of visual storytelling, but also expanded the eco-friendliness of creative learning. Teachers and parents were also given a tour of the Canon Imaging Plaza, where they were able to experience Canon’s latest imaging technologies and creative applications. These two activities added to the joyful and lively atmosphere, ending the awards ceremony in a successful and memorable manner.
