Each week, we highlight some cool innovations recommended by the industry’s leading tech writers. This week’s recommendation is a smart makeup applicator.
“While many beauty products promise seemingly impossible results, there may actually be a magic wand you can wave to restore your skin’s natural beauty,” Sean Hollister told The Verge. Procter & Gamble has released a smart makeup applicator that automatically adjusts to the user’s skin. The Opté Precision Skincare System “detects skin color and pigmentation, identifies imperfections, and precisely applies makeup in the right shade to correct those imperfections.”
Essentially, it’s a portable inkjet printer that uses makeup instead of ink, with algorithms determining how and where to apply the makeup. The product will go on sale in 2020. The price hasn’t been announced yet. However, judging by the name of the special makeup product it uses, “Opté Precision Serum,” the price could be “high.”
